“Why does EVERYONE ask that?”

I have a feeling Gavin is going to give a response that will somehow, somehow, can make him an even cooler villain than he already is. πŸ˜€

  2. mmm122

    Because Jack was there?

  3. jmkool

Probably. Because he and his parents were there. And also because that wouldn’t have his awesome touch.

  4. FanXplosion

Wow… So… He hacked them and they didn’t even realize it. Poor MI.

  5. Alectric

I thought they kidnapped her to look into her weird scarf power, and possibly harness it for themselves.

  6. Frostbite4.0

well, there were some other hackers held prisoner there, so blowing it up would kill them. thats a waste of resources. of course craig kinda sucks in comparison, but they still like the extra people.

also, typo in 2nd to last panel kenw=knew

  7. Riftblade

That *sigh* right there suggest some epic speech or explanation coming up.

We’re all ears Gavin! Tell us about how you’re not into such petty activities, and how that’s barbaric, etc. πŸ™‚

Gavin seems to be one of the very few characters who think logically, which really makes me wonder why he picked a bunch of idiots to be his subordinates.

  9. Tsapki

Mmhm, I figure we are going to get a more descriptive version of Grin and Lipbite’s exchange as well.

Before we judge Crystal too harshly, let’s keep in mind she has likely been given some horror stories on the Hackers and the usual ‘they want to destroy everything we hold dear’ speech common in conflicts of this size. That combined with that she just recently saw happen to Facepuncher and Cesar, I imagine she doesn’t have an enlightened opinion of the Hackers at this time. Oh, and the whole kidnapping thing.

But yeah, I think by now we can assume with some safety that Gavin’s modus operandi isn’t ‘kill anyone who defies me’. The whole targeting Jack thing was, as Gavin himself admitted, just a way of nursing wounded pride and likely to just be counter productive. I got no idea what Gavin’s true final goal is but it does seem it can’t be accomplished by just unrelenting violence, or at least has a more attractive option to reach fruition.

i keep expecting arms to hack out of the chair and tie her up

  11. Saiyza

What’s the point of a hostage and a ransom without a hero to extort? =P

  12. Kellins

…and cue the “bad guy monologue”

  13. reynard61

@ sage: Probably because idiots tend to obey orders. Granted, their level of idiocy can affect how efficiently they’ll carry out those orders (i.e. the most idiotic among them will be the least efficient); but, generally, the Big Bad tends to want to be the Smartest Guy In The Room.

  14. Swot

I don’t think I can fathom exactly what Gavin is about to say.
    Let’s hope he isn’t interrupted.

  15. Arklite

on the whole… i’m getting a vetinari vibe from gavin but a vetinari who hasn’t caught onto how being vetinari works. he’s got lots of power and resources but for all his logic he’s still under the impression that you need power to run the world πŸ˜›

at the end of the day, he’s a villian. an amiable villian don’t get me wrong, with lots of awesome style and hell he’s probably got a pretty awesome plan on how to improve things but he’s not caught on that the best way to rule the world is to make sure tommorow comes after today. however he’s still a badass villian πŸ˜›

  16. Girl_With_Koi_on_face

I am SUPER excited for generic evil villain ‘K time for me to justify what we do here in a way that totally makes sophisticated sense to me but NOOOO ONE ELSE’ speech!

  17. ThisIsAScreenname

Gavin=best villain ever. A lot of villains are just stupid or there for comedic effect, but he’s neither.

  18. Matanui3

    A *small* EMP bomb… Riiiiiiiight…

  19. Crestlinger

Likely right down to what hacks to use as subdual methods and who to disleg.
