So the 2 faced Gavin is the “Backup” of Gavin and Gavin ended up dying from the “Human Hacking” to remove his cancer. I guess the backup process failed to backup humanity/conscience.

Why are people trying to stick Miles to Artimis? Artimis is likely derived from the name Artemis (assuming the name is intentionally spelled with an “I” instead of an “E”), who was a Greek goddess. This makes it likely that Artimis is a female hacker of some renown considering cancer-Gavin mentions how good she was. And since it’s past tense and with the context in mind, it’s likely that Artimis is a hacker that developed human-hack techniques or at least theories on it, but has since passed away.
Also, considering what we know of Jack’s parents’ relations with MI and the fact that MI has a file on Jack, I’d say it’s likely that Miles’ death had something to do with MI. I’d say it’s possible that Miles was the prototype for Jack’s anti-hack but MI didn’t have it right and Miles died because of it. That would be reason enough for Jack’s dad to leave MI and for MI to have standing orders to leave the Cannon family alone. As for how Jack has the anti-hack, MI successfully gave it to Jack (as a child or baby, possible reason for its success in Jack but not in Miles) before Jack’s parents could stop them.
Of course, this is all just my musing, so it wouldn’t surprise me if I was wrong.
Alternate explanation for all this: This is just a VR training program; Jack is in the matrix and he is “the one”.

…two theories.
1. Current Gavin is the Real Gavin – hacking fixed him, but broke something inside him, making him diabolically evil.
2. Current Gavin is the Backed-up Gavin – the real Gavin was not fixed via hacking and/or died, and the back-up was restored to replace/fix him, but it didn’t work as planned.
Either way, it’s an interesting development seeing Gavin’s roots as an attempt to cure his own cancer…and adds a layer of humanity he as a character hasn’t shown before.

I am getting so sick of the “Miles is Jones!” “Miles is Gavin!” “Miles went back in time and is actually Jack’s father Thomas!” etc. It’s getting ridiculous.
Wasn’t going to assume this was Gavin until it was said so. Go figure! How did we get from exploding dinosaurs to terminal cancer, though?

Man I’ve read the first few Artemis Fowl books, and unless my memory is failing me, they make it pretty clear that his naming is an exception to the norm (doubly so considering that naming your kid after a Greek mythological figure is probably a very small minority). Thus, given the knowledge I had at the time, it was more reasonable to think it a female until given some clear indication due to probability of its usage.
@Cope Thanks for that, I’ve never seen it used before. Google search is providing little information on it, though. Apparently means follower of Artemis. However, it still hasn’t been clarified whether it was spelled that way on purpose or not, it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility for Jamie to make a typographical error. I’ve seen grosser spelling errors made, after all. One could reason that because Jamie hasn’t commented or corrected it, it’s what he meant, but it could also be true that he hasn’t noticed.
Basically, this is just continued conjecture until the story provides concrete details.
