May 14th, 2010 at 2:56 pm

May 14th, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Correction! I WAS buying one!
How come that site doesn’t have an option to pay with a credit card? Or is there still one and I’m just blind and/or retarded?
May 14th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Why does it look like the “with paper” thing is covering up max flipping everyone off?
May 14th, 2010 at 3:20 pm
@saper: you’re right, whoops.
@Johnny Whoa: Good question. They only seem to have Paypal, it looks like.
May 14th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
Things he should know…and things WE WANT to know!!
May 14th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
you can pay through paypal w/o making an account… it just asks you for your credit card number… it’s like a temporary transaction….
May 14th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
My question is, why did Jack pass out? Seems kind of odd, especially since he gets nose bleeds a lot. Does he have some kind of medical condition that makes him immune to hacking but is also hurting him?
May 14th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
There are some things you should know… you have no nipples
May 14th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

May 14th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
max didnt punch him?
BUT THAT WOULDVE BEEN SO MUCH FUNNIER!
May 14th, 2010 at 11:14 pm
Alternatively, there was something else in that box and Max punched it so hard it forgot what was written in it and has now taken up ‘With Paper!’ as its’ tagline.
May 15th, 2010 at 12:49 am
Uh… no disrespect or anything, but… the position of the red “with paper” shoutbox in the ad kinda makes it look like Max is flipping the bird… unless that was the intent of course~
May 15th, 2010 at 1:17 am
Maybe he is, maybe he isnt… It’s all part of the *mystique*!!
May 15th, 2010 at 1:17 am

May 15th, 2010 at 2:23 pm
Finally Jacks in Print 😉
May 15th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
Yeah Jacks in print, but it’s way too much, I can pay around the same price for a hard cover Stephen King novel and it’s about 10 times as thick. I think you got a little too ambitious with the cover price.
May 15th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
A Stephen King novel isn’t in colour. That sutff ain’t cheap. I’m actually just selling for the reccomended price on Ka-blam.
May 16th, 2010 at 3:16 pm
@Jay The Vivid
Stephen King’s novels are produced in large volumes so the printing costs are way lower.
Also Jamie has been giving you this comic for free and if you count up the hours he would have spent producing the comic this price is more than fair.
May 17th, 2010 at 10:01 am
@Merks Seconded. 🙂 The price is in line with other webcomics published works, and normally those aren’t full-sized tradepaper back OR in full glorious COLOUR.
May 17th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
Actually many Stephen King novels come with glorious illustrations, usually full color, in them, the Dark Tower series is some the best best examples of this.
Jamie may have been doing this online, for a long time for free, but this obviously just a hobby comic for him, otherwise he would be updating it more then twice a week, or charging people to view the comic, or at least have some sort of commissioned advertising on the site.
I don’t see the $25.00 value in a hobbyist web comic you can spend half an hour at best reading, especially when you can find better comics to pay out of pocket for, or read them for free online. Garfield or Calvin and Hobbes may have gotten away with charging a ridiculous amount of money for their comic archives, but they also offer double or triple the content then this web comic offers in a single book. Hell most Penny Arcade books offer almost twice as much content for half the price.
I love the comic, your art is getting better, a lot better and the story is an interesting one, but I am not going to shell out almost $30.00 for a book it would take less then an hour to read. There isn’t any value in that.
May 17th, 2010 at 11:46 pm
Merks isn’t wrong though, a S.K. book is printed in the thousands, as such, printing discounts apply and can be sold cheaper to the reader. Some retailers might even sell them cheaper than the R.R.P. and are basically guaranteed sales, so the lower price point won’t be a loss in the long run.
In any case you are comparing apples to oranges with a novel as an example, so let’s move away from that. Let’s talk about why the price is what it is.
As you probably know, I’m Australian, if I got everything printed at a local, or even overseas press, the only place I have to store the books is Australia.
So let’s say I do that I manage to print to book somewhere local, at let’s say, 15 bucks a copy, and sell it for $19.95.
Now, I’m not sure where exactly you’re from, but since you feel a $25 book is expensive, I’m going to guess you’re in the states somewhere.
Let’s say you order a $19.95 book. Sending a book the size tFAoJC to the states would cost me 17 bucks per book, or if I make you pay, 15 bucks American.
So either I’d be LOSING two dollars a book, or you’d be paying ten dollars MORE.
I’d love to have some kind of sweet deal with TopatoCo or something that lets me sell for less, but I don’t.
My current situation honestly makes this the cheapest option available to me.
I mean, look, you’re not prepared to pay 25 bucks, that’s fine. But don’t tell me to screw myself over on pricing, please. I’m trying to support myself here.
As for the hobbyist remark, I’m just not gonna touch that one.
